This week, we talk to best-selling author, coach, and speaker, Iona Holloway.

Iona was really an achiever early in life, doing well in both academics and athleticism. But despite all her achievements, she struggled with an eating disorder that was her ‘coping mechanism for survival’, as she would put it. She also shares how living with this struggle and pain became her mobilizer to jumping into the opportunity to become a professional athlete.

Iona played field hockey at a national level in Scotland and an All-American level at Syracuse University.

In the first of this two-part episode, Iona tells us about her silent struggle in this journey, and how wawa able to make the change for her recovery, leading to her writing her book, Ghost. She also realized that she possessed a very valuable discipline that has helped her as an athlete, and in life – Breathwork. Her desire to share and teach this amazing tool and it’s life-changing benefits to others led to her co-creating an app called Soul - Breathwork.

In this conversation, Iona also talks about:

- the practical and spiritual side of breathwork

- the difference of breathwork from meditation

- how breathwork can be the gateway to meditation for some people

- her personal experiences with breathwork and her one-on-one coaching

- how breathwork helped people like entrepreneurs, people in recovery, people with body and self-worth issues

- How the mind initially reacts to breathwork

- how breathwork is parallel to life -- how you have to get over the curve of 'efforting' and doing  first before reaching the state of being
